Caribbean Institute of Social Movements (CISM)

Founded in Puerto Rico, CISM is oriented to unify and propel the frontline struggles for social change in the whole Caribbean area. Based on the articulation and the actuality of social movements in the Caribbean, and through the historical context of the region, the Institute is design to gather the collective knowledge and experience generated in every freedom or decolonization struggle and to comprehend their social value.

Our Vision

  • The existence of multiple struggles and social conflicts in the Caribbean makes it necessary the collaboration, unification and the systematic articulation of those experiences developed and sheared in the struggle front.
  • Collectivize those experiences becomes primordial for the creation of a kind of knowledge that purposes the liberation and decolonization of the individual and the Caribbean community.
  • In addition to the historical and cultural background, the Caribbean region shares a many liberation struggles that also reaffirm the solidarity and integration of the region beyond the traditional historical perspective.

 

Our Mission

  • To generate an autonomous educational process oriented to regional cooperation within Caribbean social movements.
  • CISM will perform a labor oriented to integrate the numerous struggles into a context that demarks the reality of the contemporary Caribbean and their liberation process from the historical and contemporary imperialism.
  • Collectivize the experience, the strategies and the knowledge produced in the liberation struggles of the contemporary Caribbean.
  • Strategic educational and participatory cooperation at social movements level.
  • Accomplish a sociopolitical impact that can be worked from outside the traditional government sphere.
